Azelis Expands CASE Application Lab in Wisconsin
Azelis has completed upgrades and expansion of its Wisconsin facility to create another industry leading applications lab for customers and principals in the Americas. The Wisconsin CASE application lab will support the coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE) business along with the construction, mortars market across the United States and Canada.
Lubrizol Opens New Global Capability Center in India
The Lubrizol Corporation has opened a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune, India, as a hub to accelerate its growth in the region and enable closer collaboration for its customers and employees.
Schenck Process Becomes Qlar
The German-headquartered Schenck Process will rebrand as Qlar on May 13. The company will continue to serve all existing target industries, including chemicals, high-performance materials, cement, steel, infrastructure, transport, and energy. The Schenck Process brand, with its existing portfolio, will remain as a product brand under the roof of Qlar.
Orion S.A. Breaks Ground in Texas
Orion S.A. announced that it has broken ground on a plant in Texas that will be the only facility in the United States producing acetylene-based conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries and other electrification applications.
AkzoNobel Invests in Dutch Research Labs
AkzoNobel is building two new research labs at its Sassenheim site in the Netherlands. Work is about to start on building a technology center for Powder Coatings, while a newly opened polymer lab will develop resin technologies for all the company’s businesses.
PHMSA Final Rule Harmonizes HMR with International Standards
According to PHMSA, its final amendments are expected to maintain the HMR's high safety standard for the public and the environment. PHMSA also anticipates additional safety benefits to be derived from improved compliance related to consistency amongst domestic and international regulations.
DHS CISA Proposes Rule for Cyber Incident Reporting
On April 4, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a proposed rule on cyber incident reporting. CISA’s proposal includes a reporting framework that would require broad segments of industry to meet reporting requirements following certain cyber incidents, including the 16 Critical Infrastructure Sectors (e.g., Chemical Sector).
Maryland Legislature Adopts PaintCare Bill
On March 29, the Maryland Legislature adopted a measure that would bring the PaintCare program to the state. The bill, HB0001, will be sent to Gov. Wes Moore for signature.
SMAQMD Public Workshop for AIM Coatings on April 18
California’s Sacramento Metro Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) is conducting a public workshop on April 18 to discuss proposed changes to Rule 442 (Architectural Coatings). The proposed changes to Rules 442 would add a contingency measure that, if triggered, would automatically establish more stringent requirements for Architectural and Industrial Maintenance (AIM) coatings that are consistent with CARB’s 2019 AIM Suggested Control Measure.
ACA Comments on Washington DOE’s Draft Report for Antifouling Paints
ACA recently submitted comments to the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) on its third draft report to the state legislature regarding antifouling paints.

Tahereh (Neda) Hayeri Receives ACA’s 2023 CoatingsTech Best Paper Award
Hayeri received the honor at the 2023 CoatingsTech Conference for her paper, “Thermally, UV, and Moisture Curable Novel Family of Versatile Oligomers,” coauthored by Dr. Vijay M. Mannari, professor of polymers and coatings at Eastern Michigan University’s School of Engineering Technology. Hayeri’s research is directed by Mannari at Eastern Michigan University’s Coating Research Institute.
