2020 Webinar Schedule
September 10 | ACA Webinar: Washington State Safer Products Program
Presenter: David Darling, ACA vice president, Health, Safety, and Environmental Affairs
This free webinar will provide an overview of the Washington State Safer Products Program — the regulatory program to reduce toxic chemicals in consumer products administered by the state Department of Ecology. In May 2020, citing concerns over inadvertent Polychlorinated biphenyls (iPCBs), DOE added Paints, and over concerns with bisphenols, added Food Can coatings to the list of the program’s priority consumer products DOE is expected to work over the next two years to identify alternatives for certain pigments that contain iPCBs and non-bisphenol coatings and report back to the Legislature any proposed regulatory actions on June 1, 2022, and adopting any such regulations by June 1, 2023.
September 22 | ACA Webinar: Industry 4.0 Manufacturing Technologies for Paints & Coatings in Today’s Economic Environment
Presenters: Daniel Chaplin, general manager of Oneira Corporation; Ahmad Bayan, project manager at Oneira Corporation; Douglas Bohn, director of Orr & Boss Consulting Incorporated
This free webinar will highlight the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the short- and medium-term economic trends shaping the North American paint and coatings industry. The webinar will address how data-driven manufacturing technology and Industry 4.0 methodology can be implemented effectively to optimize production and decrease costs both within existing production facilities and in greenfield paint and coatings facilities.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing instructions for joining the webinar.
September 24 | ACA Webinar: Exempt Compounds and SCAQMD PCBTF Risk Assessment
Presenters: David Darling, ACA vice president of Health, Safety, and Environmental Affairs
Scott Braithwaite, ACA director, Product Stewardship, Science & Technology
This free webinar will provide an update on the status of exempt volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the US as well as address the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) risk assessment of Tertiary Butyl Acetate (TBAC) and PCBTF— also known as Oxsol 100, Parachlorobenzotrifluoride and p-Chloro-a,a,a-trifluorotoluene — the most widely used exempt solvent in the coatings and adhesives industry.
October 13 | ACA Webinar: Product Category Rules (PCR) and ACA Sustainability Program
Presenters: Douglas Mazeffa, Global Sustainability director, The Sherwin-Williams Company
Katherine Berry, ACA assistant director, Sustainability & Environment
This free webinar will address three-ACA developed Product Category Rules (PCRs): Architectural Coatings, Resinous Floors, and Powder Coatings. A PCR provides an agreed upon framework for measuring the environmental impacts of a product based on a defined set of criteria, which allows manufacturers to conduct life-cycle assessments (LCA) of their products in a standardized way, and publish this information in an Environmental Product Declaration, if they so choose. The webinar will also address ACA’s development of a multi-attribute Sustainability Program for Architectural Coatings.
October 22 | ACA Webinar: Update on Global Restrictions on Lead Use in Paint
Presenter: Stephen Sides, ACA vice president, Global Affairs and chief science officer
This free webinar will provide an update on the United Nations Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint, also known as the Lead Paint Alliance, to establish legal restriction on lead use in paint. The effort, supported by paint industry trade associations around the world, has found the World Coatings Council working alongside UN Environment, the World Health Organization, advocacy NGOs, and others to bring about change.
November 12 | ACA Webinar: Cool Roof Rating Council Wall Rating Standard
Presenter: Katherine Berry, ACA assistant director, Sustainability & Environment
This free webinar will provide an update on the Cool Roof Rating Council’s (CRRC) development of a radiative performance rating program for exterior wall products — the Wall Rating Standard — which will be based large extent on its current Cool Roof Standard. The Wall Rating Standard will measure the solar reflectance of wall products, and it is likely that green building standards and building codes will include a reference to the final Wall Rating Standard and minimum wall reflectance requirements.
November 19 | ACA Webinar: Update on Nationwide Alternatives Assessment
Presenter: Lauren Heine, Ph.D., senior science advisor, Northwest Green Chemistry
This free webinar will provide an update on nationwide efforts on Alternatives Assessment, a process for identifying and comparing potential chemical and non-chemical alternatives that can be used as substitutes to replace chemicals or technologies of high concern. This webinar will cover the regulatory use of alternatives assessments— including the Washington State Department of Ecology, California Department of Toxic Substances Control, and U.S. EPA’s Safer Choice/Sustainable Futures — as well as the use of alternative assessments in product design.
December 3 | ACA Webinar: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Update
Presenter: Timothy W. Wiseman, partner, Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, P.C.
This free webinar will provide an overview of recent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration changes. FMCSA is lead federal agency responsible for regulating and providing safety oversight of commercial motor vehicles. The webinar will address FMCSCA’s recently published Hours of Service Final Rule, and amendments to the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program.
