Omya has acquired Bublon GmbH, a technology company that produces microspheres using closed-cell expanded perlite.

Omya says that the acquisition extends its processing capability for lightweight fillers, with patented, energy-efficient production processes and a team of technical experts.

Bublon® technology is based on the controlled thermal expansion of raw perlite using proprietary state-of-the-art electrical furnaces. The products combine enhanced hermeticity and high mechanical strength with a low carbon footprint, according to Omya.

“It was important for us to find a counterparty that will ensure a long-term perspective for the Bublon team and to further develop the Bublon technology,” said Martin Pfeffer, CEO, Binder+Co. Bublon is a technology subsidiary of the Binder+Co Group. “With Omya, we know we have found the right partner.”
