Covestro LLC is investing more than $40 million to modernize its Pittsburgh headquarters. The 9-building site employs approximately 700 people and has served as the North American business headquarters since 1958, as well as one of the company’s three global R&D hubs. This investment will renovate polyurethane R&D facilities, update equipment and machinery, and refresh the campus to feel in line with Covestro’s mission.

“We are committed to the U.S. market as a whole and to Pittsburgh as our North American headquarters,” said Samir Hifri, chairman and president of Covestro LLC. “These enhancements to our headquarters and R&D facilities set the stage for long-term growth in the U.S.”

According to the company, the construction industry accounts for nearly 20% of Covestro’s business, and has allowed the company to incorporate its own materials, including roofing insulation and interior and exterior paints in its headquarters modernization. The upgrades will help Covestro meet its sustainability goals and support customers in creating innovative and sustainable products.

The current phase of improvements to the headquarters are expected to be completed by 2026.
