DSP Bresle Chloride Field Test Kit

Bresle Kit with carrying case and components, including a syringe, gauge, and bottles.

Paul N. Gardner USA has released the DSP Bresle Chloride Test Kit from TQC Sheen, which includes all of the tools needed for assessing the level of soluble salts on blast-cleaned surfaces prior to coating.

Inside the Bresle Kit is a conductivity gauge used for the assessment of soluble salt ions as chlorides, sulphates, and nitrates.

The Bresle Kit complies with ISO 8502-6 and ISO 8502-9 standards. Those standards describe the Bresle Method, that is, using a Bresle patch or sampler, distilled water, and a conductivity gauge to assess the level of soluble salt ions, such as chlorides, sulphates, and nitrates. The conductivity is mainly directly proportional to the concentration of dissolved chloride ions in the solution.

The company says that using the test’s direct sampling procedure (DSP) ensures high speed and accuracy.

The Bresle Chloride Test Kit may also be suitable to determine the contamination of blast-media in use. This test described in the ISO 11127-6 and ISO 11127-7 standards is conducted to help prevent dissolved salts in the recycled abrasive media or water from re-contaminating the surface being cleaned.

Resin or Additive Polyesters for Flexible Packaging Applications

Evonik’s DYNAPOL saturated polyesters are used as a resin or as an additive in many flexible packaging applications, such as foil and pre-print primers, printing inks, overprint varnishes, foil coatings, heat-seal lacquers, and interlayers.

According to the company, the high molecular weight DYNAPOL L grades show good adhesion to a variety of different foil substrates made of aluminum, PET, PC, and PA, and offer measurable film flexibility. Properties like molecular weight, softening point, glass transition temperatures, and balance between flexibility and hardness can be tailored in a wide range to meet special customer requirements.

Evonik says that some of the advantages of formulating with DYNAPOL polyesters come from their improved printability, low migration, lack of taste and smell, and non-yellowing properties.

DYNAPOL polyesters are formulated without BPA and PVC. The company says that most of the grades are compliant with FDA 175.300, which enables the products to be used in applications with direct food contact.

Biobased Isononanoic Acid

OQ Chemicals has launched its OxBalance isononanoic acid, which is produced from both bio-based and circular feedstocks and is ISCC PLUS certified. The company says that the new product has a bio-based content of over 70 percent.

Isononanoic acid is widely used in the production of various industrial and consumer goods, such as energy-efficient lubricants, plasticizers, and surfactants.

“The demand for bio-based raw materials is increasing across different industries. Therefore, the introduction of our ISCC PLUS certified OxBalance Isononanoic Acid is a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable chemical production. With the same specifications and quality, our OxBalance products are a drop-in replacement for traditional carboxylic acids,” said David Faust, executive vice president of Oxo Performance Chemicals at OQ Chemicals.

Surface Prep Solution for Rusted Rebar in Concrete

Cortec has released CorrVerter® MCI® Rust Primer, a tool to passivate corrosion on steel surfaces, as part of its High Performance Repair System (HPRS®).

CorrVerter® MCI® is a formulation of chelating agents and a high-solids waterborne latex that has extremely low water vapor permeability. According to the company, this single-component primer converts surface rust into a hydrophobic passive layer, dries quickly, and offers good protection against re-rusting of metal surfaces, making it ideal for repairs.

When using this product, the first step is to wire brush any loose rust off the metal surface. The next step is to remove the excess salt, dust, and contamination by rinsing with water. CorrVerter® MCI® can then be applied by spray or brush and left to cure for 12 hours before applying repair products. CorrVerter® will turn visibly black by the time it dries to touch, which takes about two to three hours, according to Cortec.

Fire Protection Coating for Architectural Steel

PPG has announced the launch of PPG Steelguard® 951 coating, an epoxy intumescent fire protection coating designed to meet the demands of modern architectural steel, including up to three hours of cellulosic fire protection.

According to PPG, in a fire situation, the coating expands from a thin, lightweight film into a thick, foam-like layer that insulates the steel and maintains its structural integrity, providing more time for people to escape and limiting damage to buildings and assets.

PPG Steelguard® 951 coating can also provide effective corrosion protection for very corrosive atmospheric environments, up to ISO 12944 C5, without the need for a topcoat, the company says. It can provide up to 3,500 microns dry film thickness in a single coat and cures rapidly, making it ready to handle the day after application.

The coating is based on PPG’s patented flexible epoxy technology, which PPG says offers excellent durability and edge retention properties, reducing the risk of cracks caused during handling and transportation. It is tested in accordance with all recognized national and international fire and corrosion standards, including EN 13381-8, BS 476, ISO 12944, GB 51249 and GB 14907 (for specified environments).

Wetting and Dispersing Agent for Waterborne Systems

Elementis has released Nuosperse FX 7500W, a polymeric dispersant designed with multiple solvation segments and pigment adsorption groups.

Elementis says that Nuosperse FX 7500W can provide good wetting and dispersing effect for various types of pigments, reduce grinding time, and mill base viscosity, deflocculate pigment particles, prevent reflocculation, and obtain good color development.

In addition, it can enhance color strength, provide good rubout behavior, have broad compatibility across various resin systems, have particularly good performance with black pigments, and provide lower foaming, and it has good storage stability, according to Elementis.

The company recommends Nuosperse FX 7500W for automotive and industrial coatings, wood coatings, pigment dispersions, and printing inks.
