Sun Chemical has expanded perylene pigment production capacity at its Ludwigshafen, Germany site, adding up to 200 metric tons of finished goods and intermediates. The expansion reinforces Sun Chemical’s long-term commitment to providing a secure and reliable supply of high-performance perylene pigments to customers across the coatings, plastics and automotive markets.

According to the company, its Paliogen Red premium perylene pigments deliver exceptional durability and color purity, offering intense red to maroon shades with excellent heat resistance and stable outdoor performance. Certified with ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX, these pigments support sustainable solutions in grades engineered for vibrant chroma and transparency for luxury and automotive coating applications.

Spectrasense functional black perylene pigments, Sun Chemical says, combine deep black coloration with functional benefits such as solar heat management and flexible high-end laser welding capability. Spectrasense pigments allow formulation of NIR-reflective black surfaces that remain cooler under sunlight, while also providing deep black colors for demanding applications like automotive or building and construction.

“Perylenes are core to our portfolio and represent an important area of ongoing innovation,” said Alex Baron, vice president and global commercial director, Sun Chemical. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver diversified, high-performance color solutions and supports the development of new products that meet customers’ most demanding application requirements.”
