Exterior Paint for High-Moisture Environments

Benjamin Moore has launched Element Guard®, an exterior paint specially formulated to tackle one of the most difficult painting environments: high moisture.

Designed to withstand wind-driven rain, excessive humidity, and other harsh weather conditions, Element Guard® exterior paint is designed for use on various exterior substrates such as vinyl and cedar siding, wood, and brick. Benjamin Moore says that the paint can resist rain as soon as 60 minutes after application and be applied in temperatures as low as 35 °F. The company says it features good adhesion and resistance to cracking and peeling and mildew. Learn more at benjaminmoore.com.

Mixer for Automotive Refinishing

Axalta Coating Systems has announced the launch of Axalta Irus Mix, a fully automated mixing machine for the automotive refinish industry. Axalta Irus Mix is designed to deliver accurate color and work with Axalta packaging.

According to Axalta, the product is simple to use and does not have to be operated by a technician. It is designed to work with Axalta’s bottle system, with no need to refill or decant product into special bottles, which are fitted with precise dosing lids. For more information, visit axalta.com.

In-Can Preservative with Product Sanitation Property

Swiss-based antimicrobial solutions provider SANITIZED AG has launched Sanitized® BDC, which is designed as a sanitizer for aqueous systems such as polymer dispersions and architectural paints.

The company says that the product’s combination of three active ingredients enables Sanitized® BDC to be effective at low concentrations, reduce manufacturing run times, simplify processes, and increase product safety.  It is process-, shear-, and heat-stable under normal manufacturing conditions, which enables application during any process step.

According to SANTIZED AG, Sanitized® BDC provides headspace protection within the packaging to make it suitable for long-term in-can preservation. Sanitized® BDC is meant to serve as an alternative to zinc pyrithione and pure CMIT/MIT-based product for markets with tight biocide regulations. Learn more at sanitized.com.

Performance-Enhancing Graphene Additives for Water-Based Coatings

Gerdau Graphene has launched two new additives specifically formulated for the paint and coatings industry: NanoDUR and NanoLAV. The new additives, produced with the company’s proprietary G2D technology, use graphene nanoplatelets that do not alter pH levels. According to Gerdau Graphene, these additives also reduce or eliminate the need for some traditional manufacturing inputs, additives, and processes.

NanoDUR is a water-based graphene additive for enhancing durability for low- and high-traffic surfaces, namely, the ability to withstand wear and tear, weathering, and other external factors that can lead to degradation over time while maintaining physical and chemical properties.

NanoLAV is a graphene additive specifically designed for water-based architectural paints to improve washability and moisture-resistance of painted or coated surfaces, in tropical and subtropical regions. Visit gerdaugraphene.com for more information.
