The following industry professionals have recently received appointments or promotions.
Boone
Barentz has announced the appointment of Peter Boone as CEO. Boone succeeds Hidde van der Wal, who retires after more than 20 years with the company.
Boone had previously served as CEO at Barry Callebaut, a manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products. Prior to this, he spent more than 15 years at Unilever in various regional and global positions, leading on marketing, sales, and brand development, latterly as the chief marketing officer for Australasia.
Van der Wal
Van der Wal first joined Barentz in 1988. He left in 1994 to join Archer Daniels Midland and then rejoined Barentz in 2000 as CEO. During his tenure, he led the growth of Barentz throughout Europe and initiated its expansion into the Americas and Asia.
PPG has appointed Claudia Knotts as the technical director of its Americas, Packaging Coatings business and Elzen Kurpejovic as the technical director of its EMEA Packaging Coatings business. The company says Knotts and Kurpejovic will work to drive PPG technical strategy for packaging coatings to ensure regulatory compliance and continued research and advancement.
Knotts has worked at PPG for more than 20 years, starting as a polymer chemist in 2002. She brings extensive packaging resin and formulation experience to her new role. Kurpejovic has been with PPG for more than nine years in various roles and has more than 10 years of project management experience and knowledge across multiple product lines.
Hinnerwisch
Specialty chemicals group ALTANA has announced Jörg Hinnerwisch, the chief technology officer at BYK, will assume the role of division president from Tammo Boinowitz, who will now focus on his work with ALTANA’s Management Board, a role he undertook at the beginning of this year.
In other ALTANA news, Stefan Mößmer will take on the role of managing director of Marketing and Commercial at BYK. The company says this newly established position aims to consolidate all customer and market-oriented activities at this level.
SONGWON Industrial Group has announced the appointment of Steffen Dobberstein as the new leader of Business Unit (BU) Coatings. The company says in this role, Steffen Dobberstein will help define and drive the coatings strategy. Dobberstein, who holds a master’s degree in business administration and economics from the University of Berlin, has more than 10 years of experience in the coatings industry.
Matt Adler has been named to the newly created role of strategic account manager for HP Indigo Business at Michelman. He will focus on expanding Michelman’s strategic relationship with HP Indigo Digital Press owners to support the expansion of digital printing in the labels and flexible packaging industries.
The company says Adler will leverage his industry expertise, acquired over three decades in the label and digital printing industry, to nurture relationships between key stakeholders in the digital printing value chain.
