Benefits to Using Silicone Hybrids for Improvements to Wood Coatings
March 2013
By Amanda L. Andrews
The life expectancy of a wood is reduced by degradation due to sunlight accompanied by water and biological attack. However, the use of exterior durable stains and paints aid in the protection of wood.
The addition of a silicone hybrid-based emulsion in paints or stains increases the durability of the coating which further extends the protection of the cellulosic-based substrate. Using homogeneous distribution of fine particle silicone organic hybrid technology increases the durability of acrylic, alkyd, or alkyd acrylic resin-based coatings.
This article demonstrates the benefits achieved when utilizing compatible silicone hybrid resin technology in formulations designed for the protection of cellulosic-based substrates.
