Electrochemical Study of Lap-Joint Corrosion of Steel with Metallic Coatings

This paper analyzes the lap-joint corrosion susceptibility of steel with four different types of protective metallic coatings (hot-dip galvanized, galvannealed, electrogalvanized, and 55% Al-Zn).

Measurements are made using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and current electrochemical noise with specially designed sensors. The results obtained indicate the importance of the crevice water retention for determining the risk of corrosion of lapped parts.
