Adhesion of Waterborne Paints to Wood

Using a modified torque technique, statistically significant differences in adhesion values were detected for waterborne model paints on wood as a function of moisture content, waterborne preservative, and after fungal inoculation. Change in a paint constituent sometimes resulted in a significant change in the adhesion value.

The adhesion values of the alkyd emulsion paints tested decreased after inoculation with a blue stain fungus. On the contrary, the adhesion values of the acrylic dispersion paints tested became significantly higher after inoculation.
