In September, building paints manufacturer DAW inaugurated a state-of-the-art logistics center at its headquarters in Ober-Ramstadt, Germany.

The logistics center includes an automated high-bay warehouse with about 30,000 storage locations for pallets, an AutoStore system for small containers, and an automated, dynamic picking buffer. An electric overhead conveyor (EHB) supplies the AutoStore, buffer storage and the numerous associated picking locations.

“The new distribution center, with its high degree of automation and digitalization, is a clear commitment to the Ober-Ramstadt location and goes hand-in-hand with a significant improvement in goods availability,” said Ralf Murjahn, CEO of DAW.

One of the objectives of the project was to unite the warehouses that were previously dispersed at the site, as well as the external warehouses in the region, under one roof and thus optimize the entire supply-chain process.

“Through automated processes, we are also creating a considerable reduction in workload for our logistics employees,” said Daniel Weber, the managing director responsible for the supply chain at DAW.
