Enzymatic polymerization is emerging as a scalable process to polymerize sucrose into engineered polysaccharides. Polymer architecture and material properties can be controlled to provide the foundation for novel differentiated biomaterial platforms. One example is alpha-1,3-polyglucose, which was prepared using this bioprocess. In this American Coatings AWARD-winning article, initial results applying this polymer in architectural coating applications are detailed.
Clariant has introduced two pigment dispersions. The Hostatint™ A 100-ST range of “super-transparent” dispersions is based on halogen-free pigments for use in the easy formulation of metallic and mineral effect shades or transparent coatings. Hostatint UV range of high performance colorants is designed for easy, safe coloration of radiation-cured coating systems for industrial and wood coatings. BASF is highlighting IFKA IO, ionic fluids for anti-static paints. Using ionic fluids to provide conductivity to latex paint, formulators can eliminate the buildup of static charges, reducing dust accumulation on baseboards and crown molding. This dust-repellent technology is being considered for automotive coatings as a brake dust repellant, and in powder coating applications for steel rims. For more, visit https://insights.basf.com/ed.
