An understanding of the level of investment in R&D, as well as current R&D strategies, provides insight into the shape of the paints and coatings industry in the future.
BASF has introduced iGloss—a scratch-resistant clearcoat for vehicles. The technology uses a new clearcoat chemistry that combines the flexible, elastic finish, and strong weathering resistance of inorganic components with the high scratch resistance of inorganic glass-like nanoclusters. The clearcoat is engineered to repair minor scratches and provide increased scratch and weathering resistance. For additional information, go to www.basf-coatings.com.
Sartomer Europe has launched a polyester acrylate specifically developed to provide enhanced adhesion to plastic substrates. PRO22019 is engineered to allow the customer to formulate UV-curable inks and coatings that meet the current regulatory standards applicable to the food packaging sector. The acrylate offers hard-cured films with improved scratch resistance and low yellowing. For additional information, go to emea.sartomer.com.
