IPPIC and Vincentz Network Host 2017 Coatings Summit in Shanghai
January 31, 2017 •
Nearly 150 senior coatings executives from around the world attended the 2017 Coatings Summit held in Shanghai, China, from January 18-20. Hosted by the International Paint and Printing Ink Council (IPPIC) and Vincentz Network, this strategy and networking event brought together senior level executives of coatings companies and suppliers from all regions of the world to explore major trends, challenges and solutions for serving an increasingly global coatings market. The Coatings Summit — the sixth in the biennial series, with the largest attendance to date — also had organization support from the China National Coatings Industry Association (CNCIA), whose members celebrated the first Coatings Summit in China.
IPPIC President Bill McPherson and Vincentz Network Publisher Jurgen Nowak welcomed the participants and introduced the featured presenters who explored the global business prospects for paint and coatings manufacturers. Speakers from China, including Lianying Sun, President of CNCIA, Hongmei Yang from Huayi Fine Chemicals, and Jie Hong of SKUSHU Paint, provided insight on the many partnerships and joint venture arrangements that have benefitted the industry serving the expanding Chinese markets for industrial, decorative, and wood coatings.
IPPIC is comprised of members representing associations from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States. The Secretariat position is currently served by the ACA. IPPIC provides a forum for information exchange and cooperation on the major issues and priorities facing the paint and printing ink industries worldwide.
Hiroshi Ishino, President of Kansai Paint in Japan addressed the future of multi-functional coatings, including those with advanced biocidal properties. Speakers from India, Slovenia, and the United States shared perspective on the global market, and the drivers that may reshape borders and advance innovations that address emerging policies for sustainable development. Emerging markets in Saudi Arabia and opportunities for public-private partnerships there were also highlighted.
The next Coatings Summit will take place in 2019 at a location to be determined.
