Economic Census Responses Required No Later than June 12, 2018

The U.S. Census Bureau is best known for its population statistics, including the decennial Census, but it is perhaps the most important publisher of economic information, including key manufacturing and construction statistics.

In addition to the regular reports on key economic indicators, the Bureau also develops and publishes the Economic Census, which is the U.S. government’s official five-year measure of American business and the economy. Most ACA member companies are among the nearly 4 million businesses, including large, medium, and small companies representing all U.S. and Island Area locations and industries required to participate in the Economic Census, which will capture and analyze detailed information for the 2017 calendar year.

For participants, response is required by law and is due on June 12, 2018.

Starting with the 2017 Economic Census, responses will be entirely paperless. The Economic Census mailed out information on how to access the electronic instrument in May 2018, and respondents were asked to provide a range of operational and performance data for their companies. It is important to note that this information is strictly confidential, and the Census Bureau will not publish company information (and won’t even publish data where there is a concern that someone will be able to identify a respondent due to a small sample size).
