Active Minerals International (AMI), supplier of high-quality gel grade attapulgite products for tape joint compounds, paint, and asphalt roof coatings, adhesives, and sealants, and oil well drilling has announced that it is fully recovered from a direct hit by the full force of Hurricane Michael, a Category 4 hurricane and the biggest storm to hit the Florida Panhandle in the last 150 years.
The manufacturing operations in Quincy, FL and Climax, GA had no consequential damage but were without power for a week, the company reported. On Monday following the storm, employees were in full force shipping as many orders as possible from a large inventory, despite the lack of power that presented hardships with no computers, manual paperwork, and extreme high temperatures. The company stated that, although some specific shipments were limited by rail and truck services and hampered by road conditions, these have now been fully restored.
Chuck T. Pettit, vice president, Operations, reported on October 18, “The mines have been fully operational this week and today electrical power was restored to the Quincy, FL operation. The Climax, GA plant started up today using a generator until full electrical power is restored tomorrow. The advance planning from our Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan and swift action by local employees before the storm put us in a strong position to minimize damage and start-up quickly. We will be operating around the clock as needed.”
Dennis C. Parker, president and CEO, added, “This was a tremendous effort by the entire Attapulgite team at both sites to bring our plants back online quickly and keep our customers supplied. We are very appreciative of their extra efforts while dealing with their own personal property damage and are helping them as best possible with the limited local resources available. In addition, plant management is communicating available local community and charitable aid to further help our affected employees.”
