Before joining Tesla in 2006, O’Connell served as chief of staff for Political Military Affairs at the U.S. State Department, where he was involved in policy and operational support to the U.S military in various theaters of operation. Before his tenure in Washington, he worked in corporate strategy as a management consultant for Accenture, as a founder of educational software developer, Real Time Learning, and as a senior executive with both McCann Erickson Worldwide and Young and Rubicam. O’Connell earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree in Foreign Policy from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from Kellogg.
Kurt Volker, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, is a leading expert in U.S. foreign and national security policy with some 30 years of experience in a variety of government, academic, and private sector capacities. Ambassador Volker serves as executive director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership, a part of Arizona State University based in Washington, D.C. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, a Senior Advisor at the Atlantic Council, and a Trustee of IAU College in Aix-en-Provence, France. Ambassador Volker is a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Guardian Funds Trust, and had previously served as BGR Group’s managing director, international.
DaveDesRoches_150x150pxDave Des Roches is associate professor and senior military fellow at the National Defense University. He has served in the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Defense (DoD) as the DoD Liaison to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as the senior country director for Pakistan, as the NATO operations director, and as the deputy director for peacekeeping. An airborne ranger in the U.S. Army Reserve, Des Roches was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. He has commanded conventional and special operations parachute units and has served on the U.S. Special Operations Command staff, as well as on the Joint Staff. Des Roches is a Marshall Scholar, and has also attended the Federal Executive Institute, the German Staff College’s Higher Officer Seminar, the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

His most recent mission was as commander and NASA science officer of Expedition 10 aboard the International Space Station. Chiao is the recipient of NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal, two Exceptional Service Medals, and four Space Flight Medals. He is also the only American to be awarded the Order of Gagarin Medal by the Russian Federation.
