San Luis Obispo County in California has adopted an ordinance requiring retail stores to take-back
postconsumer latex paint. Three additional California counties may adopt similar ordinances in the
near future. In addition, New York City just adopted a law requiring a voluntary paint stewardship
retail take-back program. ACA is concerned that these local programs could jeopardize state-wide
industry run post-consumer paint management programs.

Compounds that are to be registered after the Dec. 1 REACH deadline, but which must provide the EU
chemicals agency information about their classifications and labels by Jan. 3, 2011, can claim their
chemical's International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) name to be confidential under
certain circumstances, the agency said.

The Voluntary Chemical Assessment Tool is a secure, web-based application that allows owners and
operators to identify their facilities' current risk level using an all-hazards approach, and
facilitates a cost-benefit analysis by allowing them to select the best combination of physical
security countermeasures and mitigation strategies to reduce overall risk.

OSHA is looking for input from the regulated community to help the agency identify the chemicals
of concern on which they can focus initial efforts to amplify current programs and potentially
move to open additional rulemaking efforts. ACA's Occupational Health and Safety Committee is
assessing the OSHA effort and developing an industry position.

University of North Carolina, is hosting its 4th Wood Coatings and Substrates Conference on Sept. 10,
