The Eastern Coatings Federation has announced that the technical program and speaker schedule has been finalized for the 2017 Eastern Coatings Show (ECS). The biennial conference will be held May 15–17 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. The conference program features 44 speakers and three concurrent tracks. Topics to be covered include UV curing, resin technology, additives, colors and pigments, pigment dispersions, functional fillers, and resins. In addition, a Coatings Short Course will be presented in cooperation with the University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and Higher Performance Materials. “This impressive program presents a valuable opportunity for attendees to gain exposure to the latest trends and technology in all these areas as they relate to the paints and coatings and allied industries,” said David White, ECS technical committee chairman. “Most speakers will also have booths at the show, offering attendees additional opportunities to interact.” Additional details on the schedule, topics, and speaker bios can be found on the ECS website, https://easterncoatingsshow.com.

Eastern Coatings Show

A highlight of the event will be the Eastern Coatings Show. Exhibit hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm and on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The show organizers have announced that booth space in the exhibit hall is nearly full, with over 85% of booth space contracted. “We are pleased with the overwhelming support for this important conference,” said Daniel Canavan III, chairman of 2017 ECS. “There is tremendous enthusiasm for this year’s technical program as well as the new convention center at Harrah’s Resort. Although there is still space remaining, we expect it to be sold out as we have seen with past Eastern Coatings Shows.” Booths can be reserved on the ECS website, as long as space is available.

Waterborne Application Short Course

In conjunction with the ECS technical program, a four-hour short course on Waterborne Applications will be given by Dr. Robson Storey, distinguished professor, USM.  The course is intended to provide an understanding of the principles involved in reformulating to a waterborne system. Designed for coatings chemists and formulators interested in new applications for waterborne coatings, the course intro-duces the technology of waterborne coatings with an emphasis on the challenges encountered in converting existing solventborne coating systems to water. A series of lectures will be organized around various coatings types including acrylic latex, polyester/alkyd, two- component polyurethane, polyurethane dispersion, epoxy, and silicone. Additional topics planned include the use of additives, pigments, and pigment dispersions and application methods for waterborne coatings.

Eastern Coatings Federation

The ECS is organized by the Eastern Coatings Federation, Inc., a corporation founded by the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association (MNYCA), the Philadelphia Society of Coatings Technology (PSCT), and the New England Society of Coatings Technology (NESCT). The goal of the organization is to serve the coatings industry on a broader national basis exceeding their regional orientations.
